Ginger is actually a woman named Donna, who lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Always a fan of creative cooking, Ginger began making gingerbread houses in 1984 when she owned a store in Big Rapids, Michigan. She wanted to have a contest to see which of her customers could bake a winning house....and for fun she decided to give it a whril herself. It was fun and in subsequent years she entered the Amway Grand Plaza contest and placed with her homes.

She has continued to bake houses and started this web site in 1997. Every Christmas season the site gets hundreds of thousands of visitors and consistently ranks within the top 2 or 3 listings on both Yahoo! and Google search engines when searching for "gingerbread houses".

Donna is a Realtor by profession, but cooking is her first love, and she has owned a bakery, deli, and catering business, and most recently is facilitating an informal cooking group.

Coincidentally, in 2008, Donna adopted a standard poodle.....the dog was 5 months old and already named...........Ginger! When registering the dog, the formal name is Cherie Gingerella B. Lane.

In 2010 Donna plans to expand the Gingerbread Lane web site to include gifts and other items that gingerbread bakers would enjoy.
